President Roosevelt


President Roosevelt won the 1932 election so he is the governor of New York, he spent $20 million tax money helping the unemployed people and he was the first governor of any state to do this. He told the Americans if he win the 1932 election, he will do the three Rs:
He will help the old people, sick people, unemployed people and homeless people.
The government schemes will provide jobs for the unemployed people.
He will make America a better place for ordinary people and he will ensure the great depression will not happen again.

He said "I pledge (promise) you, I pledge myself, to a New Deal for the American people. This is more than a political campaign; it is a call to arms. Give me your help, not to win votes alone, but to win in this crusade to restore America." in 1932. This is his famous New Deal speech.

He called his new ideas 'a New Deal for the American people' and without giving away too much detail, convinced people that it would lead them to a better life. The massage were sent around the country, some were being make 15 speechs a day, and his offical campaign made a famous song called "Happy Days Are Here Again" , were being heard everywhere he wanted. The phrase 'New Deal' caught the imagination of the public and would lead him to his election victories. The americans people saw hope for the future in President Roosevelt, they thing President Roosevelt is a man with a plan. His words made the American people feel that the president was on their side!
